Technical Q&A QA1104
PCI Bus?

Q: Do all Macintosh computers have a PCI bus, both desktops and portables?

A: Yes with the introduction of the Power Macintosh 9500 all machines have a PCI bus. In fact all devices on a Macintosh with the exception of the microprocessor and memory are connected to the PCI bus. However, on some computers the PCI bus does not have PCI slots. Examples are PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs, etc. The PCI bus is however, the host I/O bus for other devices such as disk drives, USB, FireWire, the keyboard and mouse, Ethernet ports, displays, CardBus, etc.
